Lange And Concorso D’ Eleganza Antique Car Show
From May 24th to 26th, 2019, Lange was once again the sponsor of the Concorso d’ Eleganza Villa d’ Este antique car show. Since 1929, this antique car show has been held at the Grand Hotel Villa d’ Este in Como, Italy. This is the eighth time that Lange has awarded this exclusive LANGE 1 TIME ZONE watch to the ‘Best Car’ winner of the antique car show.
Two car enthusiasts, Wilhelm Schmid, president of Lange, and car collector Duccio Lopresto expressed their opinions on the show.
Coinciding with the 90th anniversary of the exclusive “beauty pageant” of the quaint and famous car, the Concorso d’ Eleganza antique car show, “The Symphony of Engines” has become the theme of this auto show. In the park of Este Manor, 6-cylinder, 8-cylinder and 12-cylinder engines make a powerful roar, while the custom-made LANGE 1 TIME ZONE ‘Como Edition’ watch makes a gentle ticking sound and is beautifully held at the auto show. A tribute to earth and elegance. Since 2012, the ‘Como Edition’ watch has been equated with the ‘Best Car’ antique car of this competition, which was awarded to the winner by Lange President Wilhelm Schmid.
There is a tacit understanding between antique cars and watches: the pursuit of excellent quality, ingenuity and craftsmanship, meticulous design processes, and the beauty captured behind the artwork. At the same time, Lange has a similarity with the Concorso d’ Eleganza antique car show: both belong to the fine segment in their respective markets, and both strive to perfection and focus on creating timeless masterpieces. This shows that it is logical for both parties to work together.
During the exhibition of world-famous antique cars, Wilhelm Schmid talked with car collector Duccio Lopresto and exchanged their views on famous car designers, racing legends and well-known car collectors. The protagonist of this meeting was the sensational 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale Prototipo antique car of the Lopresto family, which won the award at the 2017 auto show.
In the conversation, Duccio Lopresto said that as a collector, he hopes to break the barrier between art and cars, and bring these antique cars on the circuit, so that everyone can appreciate their unique beauty.
Wilhelm Schmid agrees with this: ‘The original intention of holding the Concorso d’Eleganza antique car show is to collect and protect these artworks, so as to stand the test of time. This is why we are committed to the antique car world Our passion for complex machinery and amazing design is deeply rooted in Lange’s corporate culture. ‘
When Wilhelm Schmid and Duccio Lopresto met on the shores of Lake Como, Lopresto wore the only LANGE 1 TIME ZONE ‘Como Edition’ watch awarded to the winner of the ‘Best Car’ at the 2017 Auto Show, matching his tailoring Sophisticated clothing complements the beautiful Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale Prototipo antique car. Wilhelm Schmid said: ‘This car is unique. Like this watch, Lange watchmakers and sculptors are crafted for the best car winner.
